Getting Started

"I'm considering having some furniture reupholstered. Where do I begin?"

Getting started on your project.

If you’re new to upholstery this guide is to help you along with your project. This way we work together to help you realize your ideas.

Assessing your furniture:

Before we jump into this any further, let’s take a step back and first assess the state of your furniture.

Is the condition of the show wood in good shape?

Do you have an attachment to this piece?

Is the piece difficult to replace?

Is there any merit to reupholster over replacing?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions it would be worth looking into reupholstery. Otherwise, it would be better to look at new furniture before considering reupholstery.

“Maybe you only want to repair your seats or replace your cushion foam. We recommend emailing or calling us for a quote.”

Having clear reference pictures.

Clear pictures help us give accurate quotes for price and yardage. It is also important to have a reference of your furniture while making decisions about your fabric choice.

Design and repair options.

Do you want new foam?

Do you want to add or remove skirts?

Do you want to add or remove tufting?

Do you want to paint or refinish the frame? (We stripe the furniture so you or your refinisher can paint or refinish.) *Blog idea showing how to paint furniture

Do you have a loose frame in need of fixing?

Do you want alterations to the internal frame?

Do you want to add or remove decorative nails?

“Having trouble with ideas? Look through our gallery for inspiration or try doing some additional research.”

Limiting fabric choice

There is an overwhelming selection of fabrics available in the world. Limiting color and design selection will help by narrowing your options. *Blog idea understand fabric

What color/s will go with your room and other furniture?

Is there a color theme you’d like to achieve?

Do you want a patterned fabric?

If you’re comparing quotes consider how upholstery is based on the level of personal skill and quality of materials. Check their portfolio and use your intuition. At Boothe’s Son Upholstering Co., LLC we have highly skilled workers that focus on the small details. We only use new high quality materials to give you the highest quality of work.

Ordering your fabric,

Make sure to discuss your fabric ideas with your upholsterer before ordering your fabric. We have a large selection of sample books to order or reference from. Other times certain combinations will yield poor results and cost extra to accomplish. We are here to help you and will give suggestions to steer you along a doable pathway.

What’s next?

After you’ve ordered your fabric it’s best to wait until receiving all the materials for your project. Sometimes there are delivery delays when ordering fabric. This way you can stay comfortable with a place to sit. Once you have all the materials make an appointment for a pick-up or drop-off.
